        The rules:

  • You don't have to use the word 'ecosystems' but you do have to incorporate your interpretation(s) of the word in your writing. It is merely a prompt. Give us your take on the subject. Be Creative! As a starting point, the Merriam-Webster definition of ecosystem is "the whole group of living and nonliving things that make up an environment and affect each other."
  • Must be a non-published, original creative work
  • ​Each entry must be 5,000 words or less
  • Your submission must not be published previously in any form. We retain one-time, non-exclusive publications rights to all contest winners for publication in The Well literary journal.
  • Submissions before August 15, 2016:  $10 non-refundable fee
  • Submissions after August 14, 2016:   $15 non-refundable fee
  • 1 non-refundable fee per entry
  • 1 submission per category accepted
  • Once submitted, no edits permitted
  • No entries accepted after 11:59 pm, September 14, 2016
  • Writers of ALL AGES and NATIONALITIES accepted
  • Pieces must be written in English
  • Each entry must be titled
  • Your name must not appear in the document, except in the FILE NAME
  • Files must be named in the following format: LAST NAME_FIRST NAME_TITLE_CATEGORY. For example: JOHNSON_BILL_IN THE RIVER_SCI-FI.doc. *File names will be changed before judges review them
  • Acceptable file formats: .doc, .docx, and .pdf
  • Title of the piece and its category must be alone on first page
  • There is NO snail-mail entry option
  • Entries must use 12 pt and double-spaced Times New Roman font with a 1-inch margin
  • NOTE: Entry submission is considered official only upon receipt of payment of entry fee.
